After the customs borders have ceased to exist within the EU the goods are allowed to move freely without any administrative restrictions. In terms of statistics it means that the statistical data on the commercial traffic between Hungary and the other member states must be collected directly from the trading companies instead of the customs statistics. In Hungary the Central Statistical Office (KSH) is responsible for collection, verification, adjustments, processing and then publishing the data. The KSH uses the Intrastat system in this work. KSH also provides for data required by the Eurostat, the EU Statistical Office. The facts and figures are basically necessary for the business decisions of the market stakeholders. It is important for the companies to understand that they can get reliable data only if they also provide statistics to Intrastat.

Data providers

Data providers for Intrastat can be all Hungarian companies/enterprises that buy goods (import) form EU members or deliver goods to them (export). However, business organizations are obliged to provide data only if their import or export volumes exceed a certain limit in 12 months. This limit is calculated and published by KSH in advance for every year.

The procedure and due dates of data provision

The movements of products subject to Intrastat data provision must be recorded in the report of the month when the delivery was scheduled in the relevant contract. In practice this is the same month when the goods are received/delivered.
